Mukhthaar Naseer (2 kilo) has been named Haveeru Footballer of the year for 2008. Haveeru trophy along with Rf 25000 cash prize was handed over to Mukhthaar by Sports Minister Hassan latheef at the Haveeru Sports Award Night 2008, last Friday night.

Ibrahim Fazeel (Oppo) won the 2nd place along with the golden boot while Ali Ashfaag (Dhagandey) was named the 3rd best player.

VB coach Lazslo Kiss being named the best football coach raised many eye brows as many tipped Valencia Coach Joseph Dzurjack to the award for the success achieved by Valencia under his helm.

Ameez was named the best referee. This is the second time he has won the award.

Best male basket player was named Mohamed Zilal while best male Volleyball player was named Ahmed Abdul Kareem (Longey).

Aishath Nazima was named the best female Volleyball player, Aishath Reema was the best female basket ball player award while Aminath Shiura was named the netball player of the year.

Haveeru also presented a plaque to Maldives national team to honor the SAFF championship 2008 success
